Planning Policy

Here you will find information relating to the Local Development Framework, the Replacement Local Plan and also our work involving the Borough’s Historic environment  and Natural environment.

It is the role of all local planning authorities to produce a range of documents containing planning policies and guidance for the location and design of development within their area.  We do this to make sure that new development is sustainable and fits in with our overall vision for Gedling Borough.

The Replacement Local Plan - Saved Policies

Gedling’s Replacement Local Plan was adopted in 2005 and will provide the main planning framework for the Borough until replaced by other documents prepared under new legislation introduced in 2004.  As part of this new legislation, the adopted Local Plan policies were reviewed and either saved or deleted in July 2008.

Local Development Framework

Changes to planning legislation in 2004 introduced major changes to the way the planning system operates.  The new system will replace the Local Plan with a folder of documents called the Local Development Framework.

NOTE since the new coalition government came to power in May 2010, it has undertaken to make a number of changes with far-reaching implications for planning policy.  We have therefore been working to take these changes on board.  For more information go to Greater Nottingham Aligned Core Strategy 'Next Steps'.
