50+ active for life clubs
The leisure centres run afternoon sessions called Active for Life which includes a variety of activities such as badminton, exercise classes, swimming, fitness suite, table tennis and volleyball as well as a chance to socialise with other customers. These sessions are very popular and are included in a DNA membership. It is also possible to attend on a pay as you play basis which costs £6.50 for all the activities
DNA Health is a 12 week programme of activities for adults who are physically inactive and have a low risk health condition. The scheme provides an excellent opportunity to try different types of physical activity to improve your long term health, in a safe environment led by qualified instructors.
The following conditions are accepted:
- Stable diabetes
- Musculoskeletal problems
How to join
Complete and hand in a registration form which is available at reception. At the point of registering your 12 week programme will activate which means you can instantly start using the facilities and classes.
The Heartbeats Scheme offers people with heart conditions the chance to exercise in a fun and safe environment led by a specially trained instructor. Our classes cater for people who’ve suffered from cardiac problems such as a recent heart attack, valve-replacement surgery or angina.
At your first session you should introduce yourself to the instructor, who will then explain the class structure and help you as much as needed.
If you have GTN (glyceryl trinitrate) medication for angina pain, please ensure you bring this along to the Heartbeats sessions.
How to join
You must first visit your General Practitioner or Practice Nurse to make sure it is safe for you to exercise. They will then refer you to the Heartbeats instructor who will aim to contact you within two to three weeks. For more information please contact Sue Prochnicki on 01636 815338
